Lost key: How do I hotwire my truck?
I need to get my truck onto a trailer but I need to get it started and my key is lost somewhere in my basement at my home in a different state. Anyone out ther know how I can do this?

Re: Lost key: How do I hotwire my truck?
Run a wire from the positive side of the coil to the positive battery terminal.
That will make the ignition "hot" Its good to use a toggle switch here to make it easy to turn off. Then you need to short across the starter solenoid to ingage the starter. this can be done with a screw driver but again its much easier to hook up a momentary switch here. Caution!!!! All this bypasses the netural saftey switch. MAKE SURE its in park or you will run yourself over. Last edited by DennyB; 12-24-2006 at 09:33 AM. |

I was thinking the same thing. But really these trucks aren't that hard to steal anyway, unless you install a guard dog.

Re: Lost key: How do I hotwire my truck?
Most of the kids that want to steal a car are too lazy to do any work to get it that is why they do car jacking. They have the alarms now that use GPS to tell you where your car is at all times. I like the ideal of tracking my car and hunting down anybody that steals my truck. I wish they had that system when my kids were at home, a lot better than tracking mileage and marking tires.

Go pick up a new key+barrel from a junkyard.
Unplug the old barrel. Plug in the new barrel. Turn it over. Drive off.
