Re: 96-98 350 vortec swap
Planning to swap to carb or keep injected? From what I understand you have to use an electric fuel pump on the vortec engines, but the rest should be a bolt in swap with just a new intake (Edelbrock 2116 for example) needed. For injection, someone with wiring experience should be able to help out here.

Re: 96-98 350 vortec swap
I'm in the progress of doing the swap. I've got a 350 Vortec out of a 99' Suburban with 4 wheel drive so I've got the oil cooler too. (They still had the 350's in the Suburbans and vans even though they went out of the trucks in 98.) For the wiring I went with the Painless harness. It is very expensive and although I have not put it in yet, every connection is labeled and it looks very easy to install. It also has the plug to use the 4l60 or 4l80 if you plan on using one of those. I've got a new rebuilt 4l60 for mine. Right now I'm currently working on the fuel system, figuring out what pump, tank, lines, etc. that I'm going to use.
My build thread here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=190306 Also Tim240Z, has done the swap. He's got various threads if you just search through them. If you have any other questions I'll try to be of some help. Last edited by 1972CheyenneSuper; 12-25-2006 at 08:17 PM. |

I have a 98 350/4l60e combo in my 72 swb & a 96 305/4l60e in my 72 suburban.
