Re: 1968 gmc question/help

welcome to the board from central ohio Honestly, i don't think I have ever seen a GMC with the hood lined up perfect, although, all the ones i have really looked at were 69 - 72, so there is some mis matching to be expected. Are you able to get a photo for us?

Question Re: 1968 gmc question/help

ya i will get some pics tomorrow
i know they dont line up perfect ..but this is a little different ..when hood is closed..from very front of hood to front of fender is like at least 1.5" gap right across
almost like a filler piece goes there
but hood latches perfect
and gaps that run up along the fenders are good
gap by doors are pretty good
to me seems like hood is a couple inches short or fenders couple inches long lol
so i am hoping there is a filler panel i am missing

Re: 1968 gmc question/help

it actually sounds like there is the top bar missing off the grill, we'll know as soon as you get photos.

Re: 1968 gmc question/help

I am not up much on GMC's, but maybe you have the wrong hood for the 67-68 grill. I know a 69-72 chevy hood will not work with a 67-68 grill and vise-versa, but I am not sure about the GMC.

Re: 1968 gmc question/help

You have the 69-72 hood, what you need is the '67-'68 hood. The difference is the cap on the end. The 67-68 slopes longer and the 69-72 has a more abrupt end. easy fix, swap hoods!

Welcome to the site!

Re: 1968 gmc question/help

Looks like you have a 69-72 hood on your truck. The 67-68 hoods had more of a slope nose on the front. The white gmc in the pics shows what you need. And welcome....

Re: 1968 gmc question/help

well you got the wrong hood..if you become a supporter,,you can sell the one you got on here,,if its in good shape..if you lived around me you could swap it out at the junkyard i go to for a correct one..you might be able to do that around where you live if you you find one in a junkyard...
im not sure what hoods go for..there might be a nother pic in the link in my oher post that shows the correct hood better..

Re: 1968 gmc question/help

there is another option...
Get a grill off a 69 - 72. It'll bolt right on, and fill the gap. You'll need the eyebrows and top bar to do it.
Actually, in all reality, all you need is the top pbar and eyebrows, the grill it's self is the same p/n

if the hinges pulled the hood back that far, it would be overlapping the cowl by over an inch. The 67/68 hood is longer. and his 68 has the 69 - 72 hood.

Hey I got 3 Hoods that will fit your truck. You can have 0ne or all CHEAP. Just drive over and pick them up. Being that we're both in Canada It's not too far away.
