remote start
My question is, I have a 76 Gmc 1/2 ton 2wd shortbox, it has rebuilt 350 with a 400r tranny. can I use a remote start on this year of truck, or are these universal type remote starters only for newer vehicles?

You can do it, when I installed them before I used an actuator on the throttle cable to pump the gas so it would start. This was 8 or so years ago though, maybe there is a better way of doing it now.

Re: remote start
It probably could be done, but I wouldn't expect it to be reliable on a carburated engine. Unless the engine is perfectly tuned, it's best to have a human element involved to control the gas pedal.

Re: remote start
That's what I was thinking, A servo or something would have to be put on the throttle linkage.

AC compensator or Anti Diesel solenoid can be actuated with one of the acc wires from the remote start unit most give directions on which wire to use. The only problem like mentioned above is the choke and fast idle being dead on. I had one in my 82 firebird I also had it working perfectly with my Holley carb but the remote start unit got to be too much of a hassle. You have to activate it with a switch every time you turn the car off. If you dont you need to hold the button down for X time for it to bypass. Usually by the time it by passed you were at the car since you had to be in range of the transmitter to get it going in the first place. It got old real fast and all the extra wires under the dash were annoying.

Re: remote start
Sounds like more trouble than it is worth to me. I know when I first get into my truck ('86) I have to pump it a time or two before it will start. (Old school)
