simple question. what year went to integral head on Six.
I know it was the mid seventies, but can't remember exactly what year it was. anyone know for sure. I checked with a few of the 'history' websites and got nothing definite. I know 84 was the last year for this integral head engine I have, but I can't find out what year they STARTED using them. BIG PITA on the changeover. I did it ONCE, but never again. thanx ,crossy.

From what i have seen 1975 was the last year of the bolt on intake. I had a 1976 nova that had a integral head on it, but our 1976 farm truck had the bolt on intake on it.

yeah, it seems trucks are always behind. I remember a guy i went to school with buying a new van in 77 and he had that integral head, cause he wanted to bolt on a four barrel and ran into all kinds of trouble. so we are saying 77 for the trucks i guess.

The 77 I had came with the bolt on intake. One of the guys I work with just pulled the six out of his 77 and it also had the bolt on intake. My father-in-laws 79 had the integral head.

Re: simple question. what year went to integral head on Six.
I did a quick check of my GM light duty truck parts book and it looks like 75 was the first year for the integral head 6, but the bolt on was listed from 73 to 78. But, I think this is one of those cases where it depends on where the truck was built, etc. as to which engine it got. My uncle has a 76, with the bolt on intake, but by 79, everything was the integral head, well at least the 3 79's that we own are integral heads.
