Best Off Road Mod???
What's been the best mod to date for wheeling your truck?
(if you can pick just one) I think mine is the spool I installed in the front Dana 60. Amazing difference over the limited slip. Turned the truck into a 'point and go' machine over night. Last edited by vtblazer; 12-16-2006 at 06:08 PM. |

Re: Best Off Road Mod???
So far its just been a lift and a set of mud tires.Eventually I will get some bigger tires(40's maybe) and a bigger lift.I might try 3/4 ton or 1 ton axles eventually after the SWB K10 is done.Sometime in the future I would like to get a gen 1 Blazer to make a trail rig out of and put a 1 ton running gear on it because I hate to take the swb "money pit" out and get beat up and the lwb is too big for most trails I go to

Re: Best Off Road Mod???
I'd say on mine it's a toss up between the lift and the tires. But to run the tires I had to put on the lift. My 35's have got me through stuff that my 31's or or 33's wouldn't. I'll get locker's sooner or later but most likely with my ugrade to a 14bff.

Re: Best Off Road Mod???
i realy cant pick just one. each one of these has made a night and day difference in how it wheels
the d60 ended the breakage and allows me to skinny pedal as much as i like. the 52" front and 2x shackle 56" rear springs flex incredibly well and allows me to keep all the wheels down. the boggers are unstopable, i can 90% in 2wd that i NEEDED 4x4 with the tsl's. the 465-205 gave me the motor/speed control i needed to crawl and climb. the next mods are the posi and detriot going in, transfer to a short bed, and lift a little more, im going to need about 8" to clear the 38/39 with the flexy suspension. |

Re: Best Off Road Mod???
hmmm tuff one to answer...
I really like my lever-lock that allows me to lock the front brakes so I don't have to three foot it when stoping on hill climbs and such. My FI454 has changed my rig a WHOLE bunch too, nice to not have to look for power at higher RPMs cuz the BBC has ALOT right off idel My upgraded diveshafts are still holding strong too. Warn HS9500i winch has been a very valuable tool also.

How about 'EVERY NEW I DIDN'T HAVE BEFORE'?
Got an injected 383 stroker motor for mine the other day, maybe that'll be the best one yet. |

Re: Best Off Road Mod???
Absolutly nothing special but it runs good.
Picked up a 90 blazer that had the motor already in it so i had everything I need to do the swap. The bonus parts are the serpentine belt set up and the fuel tank having the in-tank pump and baffles. Won't go into my blazer for a couple weeks at least. |

Re: Best Off Road Mod???
I figured it wouldnt be loaded with chrome going into a trail truck(blazer in this case)I was thinking of making a 383 stroker for my shortbed but I will just keep a mild 350 in it.Save the money to buy me a blazer.BTW,I blame you for making me want a Blazer I already found a 1 ton for a 1 ton conversion, now I just need a blazer.Maybe I will get rid of the 69 K10 to get a blazer....I hate to but I might.

Re: Best Off Road Mod???
Since both my Blazer and my 86 short box are apart i can't really say which upgrade was best. I did upgrade to 3/4 running gear in my 86 before i took it apart. Went through 5 half ton rear ends before that, so it was probably my best upgrade so far. All my failures were ring and pinion gears, 4 were from junkyards and would only last 6 months or so. The last one i replaced the ring and pinion with a new one, but it still only lasted a couple of years. I will probably have to upgrade the front to a Dana 60, but don't have the money or time right now.
