Once I sandblast my frame should I just spray paint it black or put some sort of coating on it?????

Re: My 1971 Project. Slow but sure.
You could apply POR15 if you wanted more protection than just paint. POR15 does need to be topcoated though because it is not UV stable. Not that your frame should see the sun too much, but with POR15 on it and then black paint it will look great.

Re: My 1971 Project. Slow but sure.
por 15 has it's own website. There is a forum discussion herehttp://www.airstreamforums.com/forum...ing-27112.html
it is about trailer frames but it good and has a link to por15.com I used it on some small applications, didn't seem to difficult, there are a few steps involved. |

http:/www.por15.com
They want you to buy all their prep products but I don't think its necessary. For parts I intend to use POR15 on I powerwash them to remove the dirt and grease, then I etch the metal with a phosphouros acid type solution [you can buy many kinds, I prefer KleanStrip Brand from Home Depot, $14 a gallon in the paint department], then wash with water to clean of the acid, dry thoroughly, then apply POR15 with a foam brush. Its very "self leveling", any brush marks you make go away before its dry. Then paint over that with your favorite paint. |

Re: My 1971 Project. Slow but sure.
If you use POR 15 that stuff is volitile so make sure you have a good resparator. Otherwise what they said. Eastwood co also makes a good rust encapsulator and you won't have to paint over. I am not sure of its durability and how long it lasts though. I never used it.
