Rims don't fit!

Hey list I bought some Foose, that can off an 2004 Tahoe six lug, well when I put them on my truck (six lug c10 1/2 ton) they went on good but when I tightened them up there is about a 1/8'' gap from the rim to the disc. What I noticed is that the front lip of the disc is hitting the the rim causing it not to fit properly. Well here's where I need help, should I grind the lip of the disc or grind the rim. Please help. Thanks you advice is greatly appeciated.

Use wheel spacers.

Re: Rims don't fit!

I agree, you need wheel spacers to fit the later model 6 lug. Sounds like you only need a littLe room, so that's good.

Re: Rims don't fit!

I am not picturing the front lip of the disc.
Are you talking about the very center? If so that is a common problem when going from the new 6 lug to the old. Either grind the wheels to open the center hole or grind the spindles/axles. Either way have it done professionally so everything is balanced.

Re: Rims don't fit!

yea..i hate wheel spacers.. never heard anything good about them. but if you can't return the wheels that maybe the only answer.. i would not
go grinding.. atleast not without seeing some pictures of your interference problem..nothing worse that a wheel coming off. and those are the story's i heard about spacers.. i work in the tire industry.

might be from people not ever checking after installed

Re: Rims don't fit!

If you only use thin ones it shouldnt hurt anything. Mid to late IROCs & some firebirds had spacers right from the factory. Stay away from spacers if you can but if you do run them, check your lugs often to make sure they stay tight...

Re: Rims don't fit!

there is a differance in wheel spacers and wheel shims. what truword1 needs are shims. the spacers run 1/2" and above. wheel shims run up to 1/2". it would be better if he had the wheel center machined to fit the hub of the older trucks.

you need to very careful if you machine the hub hole. There are a lot of factors that come into play, if you get it wrong it will never balance up.

Re: Rims don't fit!

i had a 77 chevy truck with centerlines all the way around the front were 15x6 or 15x7 not sure which but anywho when i took the front wheels off someone had used 3 washers on every lugnut on the back of the wheel maybe it had a clearance issue it worked fine on the front and the back wasn't like it never had a problem with rubbage or lugs coming loose either might be something to try just for a temporary fix just to see if it would work

Re: Rims don't fit!

the problem with washers is that they are very very inconsistant in thickness. you have to measure each stack and try to get tham as close as possile to avoid fubar tire wear and potential death wobbles.

Re: Rims don't fit!

Hey Guys, thanks for all the advise. I found some 1/4'' spacer's that worked great, but when I put the rims on the back of the truck the hub on the brake are 1/2'' bigger than the rims so now the back rims won't fit. What to do? Get rid of them!!!!!!!!

Any Idea's please help.

Re: Rims don't fit!

You mean the outside of the brake drum hits? Is it the finned brake drum? I think someone else on the board had this problem, and they were able to get a brake drum that wasn't finned. I am not positive, but oyu may have some luck doing a search.

Re: Rims don't fit!

You can run spacers on the back or pull the axles and have the hub turned down by a machine shop. You need it turned down to just under 3". I have Boyd Coddington wheels on my truck and went through everything you have. I have put over 20k miles on 1.5" quality spacers without any issues.

If it's the fins that are the problem this thread may help:
