Rear Sway Bar Recommendations

My 72 K5 has some body roll, not bad but noticeable. The shocks and springs seem to be in good shape so I am considering a rear sway bar. The ideal bar would be a bolt on that does not require any mods. Let me know if you have any recommendations or thoughts

Do you already have one on the front? If not adding one out back is a no no. It seems like later model 4x4 suburbans have swaybars front and back. I would think they would make a good donor for a near bolt on.

Hey Guys, thanks for the responses. I would be doing good at getting a bolt on installed without mods. I do not have one on the front. I may check out the later burbs. I guess 73-88 would be the closest.

Any other recommendations for OEM type that will bolt on without mods? I have looked at LMC, PST, Industries and Hellwig. LMC and Industries indicates a 7/8" but not certain if it will require mods. Hellwig has discontinued and PST doesn't list one.

Check out Brotherstrucks.com I know they have front atleast and I'm pretty sure bars for the rear as well.

I once ran a Hellwig sway bar on the back of my truck. It was a complete bolt on and used clamps to hold onto the frame, with no hole drilling required. You say that sounds cheap? Right you are. One of the mounts fell off...sometime....somewhere. Never figured out where it fell off. Maybe that is why they are discontinued.

Oh by the way, if anybody ever had a sway bar mount go flying into the front of your car or anything, its not mine.

Left, brothers list ADDF141 for the frot of a 72 k5.

Low, nolimit list one for the rear of a 72 K5.

I have sent both an email for application and mod verification.

Would you install front first then back if front does not correct all roll and over steer?

Front sway bar increases understeer......thicker bars mean more understeer.

Rear bar (after front is installed) will begin to balance the truck by removing understeering qualities and give the vehicle a more neutral balance in the corners....adding thicker bars out back will eventually make it tail-happy...

Having at least one of the bars adjustable is nice, because you can dial-in the handling behavior you want by softening or stiffening the bar.

Hey Greg, not sure if I have under steer. I have to continuously adjust my steering wheel, tiny amounts, in both directions while driving at 55 mph. Also I can feel the body roll when making lane changes. All steering components and shocks are new with less than 5k miles. Springs are stock originals.

I had originally thought the sway bars might be the answer. However now it appears to be more complicated than I originally thought.

My worn drag link ends on my stock push/pull steering setup caused a similar issue (the vague wandering)....could be slop in the steering box too....or alignment (toe in/out) or a bad set of tires...

Understeer is more of a behaviour at the limits of cornering....the front end wants to continue to go straight in a corner, even though the steering wheel is asking it to turn.

A front sway bar will add some "crispness" to your turning, and for quick transitions from left to right. The wandering sounds like some other issue that you need to sort out separately though...

New steering box and drag link ends with a recent alignment. Inexpensive low mileage tires that are five years old. May initially focus on tires and spring bushings.
