I'm thinking the same thing. It's just a decision of whether I want to buy local, which I may spend about the same once POL adds in their shipping for their items. I do like the quality and unique look of the POL brackets, though. I'll have to mull over this one for a while. Jesse

Re: What headers are you using for your BIG BLOCK?????
Take a look at the motor mounts for the 68-71 BB there are like $70 each side. so $80 each side for stands = 160 then mounts 70 each side =140
$300.00 just in mounts for a BB. Kind of scarry. Im in the same boat. I would really like some 72 BB stands but big bucks if you can find them. Jack |

By the way...first time using Outback, and their facility is really nice. It's a very personable Mom & Pop outfit with great people, and tons of neat products and body parts. I highly recommend them. Number is 281-350-9072. Jesse

action, the gentleman at Outback verified that existing mounts will work, but there are correct ones out there if you want everything to be perfect. With my wife-imposed truck budget, I have to get the necessities and work from there. If they work, I don't buy anything else. If I can prove to the wife that I MUST have the others, then we argue, fuss, fight, throw furniture....then I get the correct ones . I will let you all know how they work out. Jesse

Re: What headers are you using for your BIG BLOCK?????
I just wasn't sure how the small block MM would fit sense the BB mounts have the big hole w/rubber on back side. I hope it works as I think it is terrible to have to pay 65-70 for each MM.
Let us Know how it works. Jack |

Re: What headers are you using for your BIG BLOCK?????
Ok MY 2 Cents I guess.
I have a 69 with a 454 LS7. I am using 69 BB stands with small block mounts. I dont have the BB rubber backing, I used heavy square plate with grade 8 bolts. I wont come out. I am looking at replacing them with poly someday but they are GM NOS mounts so they should last awhile. My Headers are Hooker Super Comps and they fit nice. I pulled them out thru the bottom and had them ceramic coated. I had no problems with fit they slide in and out nice. They are a little close to the stock starter so I installed a zero heat sink Powermaster(Problem solved)

Not sure about the crank pulley hitting the front crossmember, as I haven't reinstalled them yet, but it does't look as though I will have any problems. But one problem I did encounter is that the BB is pushing the driveshaft back farther, so now I have to have it shortened (sigh of frustration). I will keep you posted. Jesse

Re: What headers are you using for your BIG BLOCK?????
Mine is damded close. I just added an aluminum pulley and it now comes within 1/4" of hitting. The aluminum pulley has 3 grooves and the old pulley had 2 grooves and left plenty of room. The last owner ground out the area you have highlighted but I'm not sure why.
On a side note does anyone make a replacement for the crossmember? Thanks, Whit |
