Factory Assembly Manual

Im looking to buy one but have only seen them online for trucks. I am a little new to these particular manuals so bear with me...does the manual for the trucks also cover the blazers, or is there a blazer specific publication. I found this link for a reprint.

http://www.gregsonline.com/eshop/Assembly/67TFA.htm

Any help?

Re: Factory Assembly Manual

The Factory Assembly Manual covers trucks, suburbans and blazers, you can also find the manual in ebay for about $30 or so.

Re: Factory Assembly Manual

Can anyone explain to me how the assembly manual is organized?

I have seen the same sections of the truck covered in muliple places in the manual. How do you know which picture is applicable to your truck? I have never seen any captions under the diagrams like "1968 C10/K10 only" or "C20 only".

Actually, it isn't organized, except chronologically. It's really a compilation of many but not all of the diagrams GM sent out to dealerships so their shops could produce options to spec. There is very little text, serial/part numbers are deleted and there's no index. An interesting book, but not what it purports to be on the cover. Buyer beware.

Re: Factory Assembly Manual

It's not like having a Chilton's manual, but it is very handy since
it has exploded views of areas and parts, just no part numbers.

Example pic

Re: Factory Assembly Manual

I bought one from GMC Paul's. Haven't used it yet as I haven't started the resto. But I ran through it cover to cover. Yes, it has Blazer (Jimmy) info. Looks like a lot of good info and pics in there.

Re: Factory Assembly Manual

There is good info but I just wish it was better organized. I agree with '68OrangeSunshine that it is not what it is advertised to be. It is good for routing plumbing, wires, AC ducts, and positioning emblems. But if you have a truck in pieces and think this is going to be the how-to guide to put it back together you will be sorry. I think it should be renamed the "collection of random assembly pictures" instead of assembly manual!

I have the service manual and that is great. I highly recommend that to anyone. I have the one for 1968 but since my truck is a mix of parts from all years I think I need to get the service manuals for other years too, especially 71-72 because i have the 71-up cross member and other parts.

Re: Factory Assembly Manual

It's called "Factory Assembly Manual" and that's exactly what it is -- the manual used at the factory to assemble the truck.

They were assembling 100 a day -- they didn't need elaborate instructions about inserting slot A in tab B -- they just got specific pictures to answer specific questions, like "How far from the door edge do drill the holes for that badge" or "with RPO 27Z, exactly how does the muffler bearing attach to the knutnen valve?"

It's a pretty great reference on obscure questions, but I agree _I_ couldn't use it to build a truck from scratch.
