No spark question
I just started working on a 68' inline 6 250 that has been sitting a year or so. I have spark coming out of the coil but no spark coming out of the distributor cap. The PO looks to have put on a new cap, rotor and points apparently trying to get it started. The funny thing about the spark at the coil is it is only there at the beginning and end of cranking it over. Is that normal? Any thoughts on where to go next? Thanks for any help!

Im assuming this is points. Did you put the cap, roter, and points in yourself?

Your post is not too clear about the spark but you should get a spark each time the points open with the key on. Anyways here is the cure to your problem courtesy of Shifty.

It is points and the PO put them in. I have checked the points gap and cleaned them. I replaced the condensor. I will certainly go to a HEI but I want to get it running 1st to evaluate the engine.

Check to see if it looses voltage to the coil while cranking.
