Re: New guy here

Welcome from sunny Iowa..... Tranny ratio, I'd get a ratio adapter if needed as mentioned, those three speeds have to come clear apart to change gear on tailshaft otherwise. Gas smell - may need new filler cap, common leak problem on these, and I ususlly don't fill much past 3/4 tank unless on long trip.

Not to drop it on the frame, but because I've heard they are the best ride. Any input would be appreciated.

Once I have the wheels picked out, I hope to sell the rims on the truck. They are the style on the General Lee. I'm sure there is a General Lee guy out there that would like to buy them.

Re: New guy here

You may be able to change the outside gear to adjust for rear ratio change, that is easy, but you may not be able to get enough tooth change, changing the inside gear is a pain, tranny has to be disasembled. Here a link for the ratio boxes : http://www.transmissioncenter.net/sp...n_______va.htm

I am assuming you have a 3 speed manual, if 3 speed auto like turbo 350, it is easy to change outer and inner gears to get the speedo right.

Anyone have tricks to keep the gas smell down in the cab? I'll do the bed tank sometime, but not right now. It's even worse now that I've changed out the sending unit.
My truck had that smell when I bought it. I removed the tank and sure enough there was a small pin hole in the tank. I had it repaired and it doesnt smell at all anymore. Welcome to the board!

Re: New guy here

I think the smell is coming from the fabbed up adaptor we made to get the new sending unit to hook up to the feed line.

I bought a new sending unit for a v8 not thinking the truck originally had a straight 6. The v8 sending unit had a bigger connection. We used the old sending unit connection and the size for the new sending unit with a piece of fuel tubing. Soddered them together and hooked it up. I'm going to tighten it down some more, but it that doesn't take care of it, I have a plan.

First, petition the wife for more funds this month for the truck. Then buy the rear tank kit.

If that fails, then use rubber fuel line with some clamps because I'll be doing the rear tank conversion at some point.
