84 Scottsdale

We have a 84 Scottsdale that had a 6.2D in it,we have replaced it with a 400SB petrol.We are having a problem with the trans,it is running a 700R4 that was behind the deisel,it wont select drive! Changes thru 1st & 2nd then goes into nuetral,
Any suggestions?

adjust the detent cable, it is the cable that runs from the trans up to the drivers side of the carb.

Ignore the other question that I posted (same as first, as my husband just asked the same one under my name!)
