Re: New guy with questions, imagine that :-)
well your looking at fixing or replaceing most of the body with exceptions of fenders withc are the cheapest. lol i think id finde a better canidit to make into a hot rod unless your gona get a fiber glass bed and all from us body source then it would be ok. it will be easy to lower with the coils not to mention this is a better riding and launching set up than leafs. nascar designed ther chassies off the chevy trailing arm suspension.. if you buy it you will likley have to replace bottom of door pillars bottom of vent cowls on both sides of cab, kick panels, inner outer rockers, and the floor supports you already noticed. also look for rus buy the rear view mirror becuas these cabs have been known to leak at the rear seam of the cab and ruin the head liner etc. inside...bed floor is no prob as is the tail gate youl want to get rid of that weight to go fast... good luck...

Re: New guy with questions, imagine that :-)
I've had a 1/2 ton and a 3/4 ton ('69) and have weighed both on a scale. The 3/4 ton weighed around 800-1000 lbs more (depending on how many bean and cheese burritos I'd eaten that week). I would say that a 1/2 ton short bed would be the truck to hot-rod for that reason alone.-cougar
