700 R4 Tranny

Im needing to install a lock up switch on my transmission and so I dropped the fluid pan on the tranny and dropped the tranny filter to observe that this tranny has 2 presure switches in it. my question is which presure switch is for 4th gear. the picture I have put in here only shows one switch but my tranny has 2. the other switch is right next to the switch in the picture to the right of it. and what is the other presure switch for?

Re: 700 R4 Tranny

What Year Of 700 Are You Working On? Just Above The Pan Rail Is A Serial Number. 700 Trannys Have Many Different Setups Based On The Year. Just To Verify Give Me The Colors Of The Sensors. I Need The Whole Sn To Make Sure

Re: 700 R4 Tranny

The Sensor With The 2 Wires Is The Downshift Switch While The Sensor With 1 Wire Is The 4th Clutch Switch The Serial # Is On The Side Of The Tranny Just Above The Pan Rail On The Pass Side At The Back But Still On The Side

Re: 700 R4 Tranny

Dang cooter I gotta find the # , not to turn more dirt but I found another picture on the internet and this pic shows 3 switches on the valve body but I read what you said about were my wires are going. cooter, I am trying to install a lockup switch in my 700 so, this kit come from Bowtie Ovferdrive, they say remove 4th gear presure switch and replace with the switch they sent. no prior to removeal of my original switches, the 4th gear switch had one wire and one wire post on it, the switch that had two wires had two wire post on the switch, they sent me a switch to replace my "one pin switch" with a two pin switch. now keep in mind the other switch in my tranny as we are calling this switch the downshift switch, has two pin connectors on it. ohhhh good god Im so confused. no Im with you on what your telling me. But my downshift switch with thier kit "bowtie overdrive" now my downshift switch will not have any electrical connections to it. NOW WHAT????? cooter i do thank you for working on this with me

Re: 700 R4 Tranny

Your Tranny Is A 1987. Are You Putting In A Manual Switch? Or Relay? The Third Sensor You Say Could Be 2 Things. If It Is Next To The Downshift Switch Then It Is A Temp Switch Which Will Not Allow The Conv To Lock If The Tranny Is Cold. If The Switch Is Up Front To The Pass Side It Will Be The 2nd Clutch Switch. IS THE TRANNY IN A COMPUTER CONTROLLED VEHICLE OR ARE YOU INSTALLING IT INTO AN OLDER VEHICLE?

Re: 700 R4 Tranny

this will be , umm relay I believe, because its all internal and i wont have to worry about any switching. my original only had 2 switches, the one in picture 2 "A" and then the other switch is in position " B" in the same second picture this will be in my 72 non computor controlled but will be behind my LT1 motor. thanks Cooters

Re: 700 R4 Tranny

the only wire you need for your application is a power wire from fusebox to brake switch to the tranny connector. Once inside the tranny wiregoes to one side of the 4th gear clutch sensor. the other side goes to the lockup unit. If you are handy the best way however requires no wiring. Hydraulic pressure from the tranny engages the lockup (works awesome) Make sure your TV cable, what people call the kickdown cable is setup correctly or you will kill the clutches in 15 minutes and the tranny wont even shift
