It just plopped out of the sky!!! Nah I got real lucky. Found a excellent bed on an 84 GMC. Now to disassemble. The 84 bed use the Torx screws to hold the fenders on and I can get a head for my rachet.

I want to use my old fenders, and it looks like a regular phillips head screw, but there is no way they are coming off with a regular big screw driver. Do they make a special tool or something I can hook to a 3/8"s or 1/2" rachet. I'm not too worried about the 84's fenders if the get hosed a little, but I need to resue my 70's

Appreciate any assistance. Both are vigorously soaking in PB Buster/wd40!

Use an impact driver (they use 1/4" bits) and a #2 phillips. Dont hit it to hard... wouldnt want to dent anything.

To remove the big phillips bolts from your '70, use a 1/2" wrench from the wheel side. Most times, they will just snap right off. If not, you could get a hand impact tool that has the screw tips on it. Mine detaches and goes on 1/2" ratchet. Then put a box end wrench on the nut and turn the screw.

I remember removing the ones on my '69. I defenetly worked up a sweat! Took over an hour on one fender!

Congrats on finding the bed . Yes its a standard torx head socket for your rachet to remove the 84 screws , I can look up the size if you need it . On that 84 bed I guess you already know you will have to weld in a filler panel between your 70 steps and the 84 bed side because the 84 steps are 2 3/4 " higher and they cut the sides up that far and the stake pockets ( front braces ) are shorter . Also you will have to redrill most of the holes for the 70 fenders and fill the old holes and then a few other small changes like move the tail light sockets , make mods to the step brackets and ect . I think the fender bolts on the '84 bed are T-45. That's a standard size that you should be able to pick up at Sears or any reasonably-stocked tool source. Strap-On also carries them if you want to spend $20 and you happen to have access to one of their trucks.
