Sealing the engine
In Feb I start my de-construction effort on my 69. Pulling the cab, the front clip and bed...
I'm going to pull the 350 and trans to have it re-sealed. A local trans shop will do the trans but i'd like to attempt the engine myself. When the engine is on the stand : Does anyone have a good link on the procedure of re-sealing the engine or a book suggestion i may purchase or a good ole fashion checklist would be much appreciated. TIA

Define "Resealing the Engine". Are you wanting to rebuild and have the valve guide seals and new piston rings, or are you wanting to just redo the crankshaft seals and the valve covers? How old is the motor and how many miles does it have on it? Where are the leaks associated on it and does it have plenty of power, still? These items helps to decide what you are going to do?

If you got leaks on the low end then you should be addressing them too. Having the engine on a stand would be a perfect time for a new one piece oil pan gasket and rear main seal.

it burns oil, the compression was good awhile back but i'm going to recheck that, i just want a checklist of everything i should do to the engine now that its on a stand

Sounds like a money pit in the making to me! Can't really do the rear seal right without removing the crank, and awe heck while it's out I might well have the crank ground and go with the new bearings and on and on...., I have a '59 drof tractor that I only wanted to fix the power steering on in my shop...next thing I knew I had over 1300 dollars just in the engine and I did the build.

I'd just go ahead and plan on a rebuild, if ur considering new heads, go ahead and do the bottom end too. Then you know what you have.

If you took the time to pull the motor an transmission out, I would rebuild it now.
No sense messing with trying to pull it out of your beautiful painted front clip later, if something comes up. No way to really know without digging in. my $.02736 (inflation) Bill in SD

That all makes sense. Thanks for helping me picture it all in my head.
I'm going to take it little by little, avoiding getting too over my head. I guess i just want to clean it up and fix what is making it drip on my floor. I hate seeing oil drips. , it runs well, so i dont want to tear into it unless i find something troubling when i clean it all up.
