Can anyone recommend an exhaust shop in Portland, Oregon
I'll be in the market next week for a complete full exhaust and am looking for a quality exhaust shop that won't gouge me on price.

Brad,
I left a message for my brother, he lives there and is an instructer there at the Portland Community college in the auto dept. He knows most of them down there, and he just got his Chevy done last week by someone. When he calls me back I will let you know. |

If you don't mind driving two hours there's a nice place here in Bremerton that does good work and they are good about price. Kitsap Muffler in Gorst....

I had a full custom job done at the Ed's Muffler in Gresham across the street from Gresham Toyota a few years ago.

I know it's in Vancouver, but Hazel Dell muffler has done a couple of exhaust systems for me & they do great work, they carry Flowmaster & Magnaflow. There's also a place called punks that some rodder friends I know speak very highly of.

Re: Can anyone recommend an exhaust shop in Portland, Oregon
I know it sounds funny, but the Midas shop in Lake Oswego did a full system on a '64 SS of a friend of mines that was bad ass. I think they also did the '66 Malibu for the same guy too.

Re: Can anyone recommend an exhaust shop in Portland, Oregon
Thanks for the input so far. Anyone else? Also, how long can I run the engine without damaging the exhaust valves by not using full exhaust?

Re: Can anyone recommend an exhaust shop in Portland, Oregon
How much exhaust do you have? A buddy of mine ran open headers on his '67 Bronco for about a year without issue. He was pushing a little over 400 hp in a 351c. It was his daily driver until the cops finally caught him.

Re: Can anyone recommend an exhaust shop in Portland, Oregon
My headers are about a 3/4 length header. I have the other tubes off my old headers that I may be able to extend the length a bit.
Dave, how long ago was the exhaust done at Midas? I'm not inclined to go to Midas, but if they do good work then that's all that matters. I've always gone to Mac's which is close by, but they are rather spendy and the last exhaust they did on my Camaro I gave specific instructions and they didn't tuck it up under like I requested, but otherwise looks good.

Re: Can anyone recommend an exhaust shop in Portland, Oregon
The Impala was done 2 years ago I think. It's the Midas right by GI Joes off the Durham exit.
The Ed's in Gresham would be my first choice though, unless Lake O is closer. I think with your 6, it shouldn't be too hard to get a good job. Mine is so tight, I am a lot more worried about it. |

Re: Can anyone recommend an exhaust shop in Portland, Oregon
Dave, I went to Ed's on 181st & Division and they're no longer there. The building is up for lease. I went to a couple other places and found a place that I'll be taking it to on Monday. Portland Muffler on 122nd and Airport way. The guy initially came across as really arrogant and I was about to leave but the conversation turned and I kept talking with him. He suggested a way that I didn't think was possible and one that I'd prefer and he's substantially less $$ too. After talking with him more and seeing the shop he's got his business in, I expect he'll do a great job. I'll let you all know on Monday evening.
