oil shooting out to a rocker arm
to day i was going to do a little valve adjustment and i took the valvecover off and turned the truck on. all of the sudden oil began to literally shoot out of the number 2 exhaust rocker. i mean it shot out on to the fender in a solid stream. what would cause this. i never even got to touch a valve. is there something way wrong here?

Re: oil shooting out to a rocker arm
Oil will shoot out of the push rods. Sometimes just a dribble and sometimes to the fender. They make clips to attach to the rockers to stop the oil from shooting out. I use a piece of cardboard cut down to deflect the oil and put it back onto the head.

Nothing wrong, perfectly normal.

Re: oil shooting out to a rocker arm
Sounds like you got one good lifter and 7 decent ones on that side.
Crane lifters will "dribble" just enough oil on to the rockers to keep them happy. But Rhoads lifters, Ive ran these on two of my vehicles and they litterally shoot the oil up like that. They are great.

Re: oil shooting out to a rocker arm
Means you have great oil pressure at idle

Re: oil shooting out to a rocker arm
A friend of mine cut out a small opening in one of his old valve covers. I thought it worked better than the clips.
