LS1 Engine Harness and A/C Bracket???

Well guys the LS1 bug has bit me once again, has anyone ever found a wiring diagram for a DIY wiring harness conversion, instead of paying someone 400 bucks to do it. Also, what about a bracket to remount the A/C compressor (Sanden 508 with Vintage Air) to the top side of the engine without spending a 1000 bucks on brackets?

Re: LS1 Engine Harness and A/C Bracket???

sign up at Ls1tech.com. Yes, the wiring layout can be found there in the "Conversions and Hybrids" forum. Brackets - $50 - fab your own out of 1/4" steel.

Have fun with that harness. There's a reason people pay a couple hundred dollars to do it. For the record, I got both my harness worked out AND the PCM reprogrammed for less than $400. Wait4me Performance. Good work, poor communication, and I still need to do some of the wiring to add relays, fuses and other stuff. You skimp on $$$ you suffer with this swap. The more money you put into it, the less headaches you have and the less chance for chasing down gremlins later.

Good luck.

Re: LS1 Engine Harness and A/C Bracket???

I'm going to just modify the stock harness myself. I'm not sure if I'm going to run an electric throttle body or manual, but I have a harness for each style. That way I have full control of where I mount the PCM and have just the right length on each of the connections. From everything I've seen, the bought harnesses aren't just loaded with extra features and still take plenty of time to make functional.

I agree with shifty on the brackets, if the stock GM bracket from the vette, camaro, gto, or trucks don't work for your needs, make your own.

Right up front we need to clear this up. No matter who does the work, and LS-1 conversion is not cheap. If your looking for an economical conversion this is not for you.

You can modify the harness yourself, but who's going to program your computer?

You can also modify the stock brackets to clear the frame rails or build your own. Regardless it's not easy or cheap but it is s good conversion if you do it right...

Re: LS1 Engine Harness and A/C Bracket???

I know most of you will just want to get a 'canned' program for your truck, make it run, and never look back. I'm not from that mold. I'd personally rather have the ability to make changes as needed to my program. I'm sure that the idea of tuning your own stuff will make some people uneasy. I can honestly say that its not too difficult and the rewards are great.

That said, EFILive is in my opinion the best product on the market. I've use it to tune a couple of my nitrous and supercharged trucks and my supercharged Tahoe, a friends 98 Camaro, a buddy's 06 Duramax, etc... Its been invaluable.
