12 bolt problems

Alright, can't find a rearend for my 71. So I was pulling this one out to take to the local 4x4 shop to have them do rebuild bearings and such. So I go to pull the axles and notice the head for the bolt to remove the pin that holds the axles is gone. WTF do I do now? So does any one have a good carrier laying around that they want to sell me?

6 lugs, gotta count the teeth so I can figure out what gears it has. So since I can see the spiders with no springs what does that mean? I am truly rearend defficent. I actually found a 72 K-5 in Tacoma today, they wanted 325 for the whole rearend, kinda steep. I have seen 73s and up go for 150 to 175.

WELL IF YOU HAVE OPEN DIFF THEN YOU DON'T NEED TO TAKE THAT BOLT OUT THAT HOLD THE PIN IN.PUSH THE AXLE ALL THE WAY IN AND THE C-CLIP SHOULD FALL OUT YOU MAY HAVE TO POKE AROUND THE CLIP A LITTLE WITH A PRY BAR OR SCREW DRIVER TO CAOX IT OUT. THE GEAR RATIO IS STAMPED ON THE RING GEAR IT WILL BE TWO NUMBERS THEN TWO DOTS AND TWO NUMBERS AGAIN. THE FIRST ONE WILL BE THE PINION GEAR COUNT AND THE SECOND WILL BE THE RING GEAR COUNT,THEN YOU JUST HAVE TO DIVIDE.

you can punch the lock shaft out and as for getting whats left of the lockpin out by using an EZ out unless someone else knows a better trick, you wont be able to push in shaft in far enough ot remove C clip unless the lock shaft is removed, if it was able to be removed without removing lockshaft then we would have big problems..

good luck

Drill it out and use a bolt extractor. You should be able to salvage the unit easily....
