Post To Part or not To Part?

Finaly got the okay to tow this truck home. I can't decide if I should use it as parts or to give it to my son as his first truck. The only known rust is on the passenger side rocker wich I already have and light surface rust as it has sat for 3-5 years.

I paid $250.00 it needs an engine but other than that she is a cherry!

Cool

Engines are everywhere. If it was mine, I'd put some time into cleaning it up, maybe shoot some fresh paint on it and sell it. For us small timers, I really don't think it's worth the time and effort to part something out to make cash. I've parted many trucks but mainly for parts for other projects of mine and then sold misc. stuff on the side. Maybe if you needed a disc brake frontend or something but that truck looks to nice. What motor due you need? V8 or 6? My 2 cents.

well I was thinking of using the parts for my 72 suburban. things like grill bumper hood door fender. But I agree the truck is too nice to use as parts. You know I found this truck in Mt. Vernon! jj. It was in Blaine! I need a 350 for it. Got one?

I bet once you clean it up, it looks a whole lot better!

I am so against parting out old cars/trucks that I see red so you know the way im going to vote already.

Here in Pa, we don't know what "a little rust" is so consider yourself lucky. If you lived here, you'd sell your blood for a builder like that! LOL

Do whatever you have to to keep this truck alive. If your not interested, sell it to someone that will. I would never part out an old truck in that condition. (or any car/truck that is buildable)

People have to start realizing that one day these trucks won't be so plentiful. I always use the '57 Chevy's as an example. Remember the day when they were everywhere? Now try to find one! (and be able to afford it)

The parts your looking for can easily be found at swap meets or junkyards. It's too late for them but up to you on this one.

I know you'll do the right thing.

Clean it up buff it out with some Colorback, put some ralleys on it,then look at it,check the kickpanels and inner floor.might make a nice first ride for a kid,put in a 283 2bbl,and a t350.perfect for a youngster.any sbc would be a good choice, and they can be had cheap,i recently sold a good running 305 with a new gasket set for $50,just to make it leave.

if you have to ask whether you should part it out or not, that means you shouldn't.

Mount Vernon?!! Dang, my radar must be broke. Actually I just went to an estate auction and he had 3 trucks 72,71 and a 69. They went cheap but as ya know, I'm shut down until some rigs find new homes. You want a 72 4x4 frame to stick that on? It's a tripping hazard. lol
