its got a holley carb and an edelbrock intake, along with an msd ignition. i dont know much about the head and other stuff yet only talked to him once. but will its bolt on to a 700r4 is my real Q and will it be worth it.

Chevy did indeed make a 427 big block, although they never came in trucks. 4.250" bore and 3.76" stroke. Best big block they made IMO. As long as it has oval port heads or rectangle port your good. If someone swaped on peanut port heads those arent very good at all. It will bolt directly to your 700r4.

make sure the block is a short deck and not a tall deck.. get the stamping code off the engine or at least the casting number and look it up first

good luck

If it has a intake already, Im sure its a short deck. If not then there will be spacers between the intake and heads. Good idea to check. Tall decks can be made to run just as good, but arent as powerfull or near as good in stock form as short deck versions.

so you think its a good buy? it seems hes put a lot of money into it and is selling it very cheap, because he says he just likes to build them up once there built theres no more fun in it. I am getting a 383 right now, do you think that in going with this i will be better off?

Transmission will bolt up to the bbc. I wouldnt put a 700r4 behide a bbc tho. That bbc will have a field day with the od and granading parts all over. The overdrives arent ment to handle all that low end torque of a bbc. If it was me I would look for a TH-400 or atleast a th-350. With those new tires you are getting and the gears you have plus the big block that doesnt leave much hope for the 700r4.

Just my advice

I also woulndt put a 700r4 behind a big block. Lots of people claim they can make one live, but NONE will warrenty it behind a raced big block. I also have never herd a single person talking about how well their built 700 lasted behind a serious power engine, but lots talk about how theirs blew up
A 2004R FULLY built might take the power......

bowties overdrives is a good company, thats where I just got my 2004R
really nice people to talk too.

Now, this is not my persoanl exsperience, but grumpvette on chevytalk said he went threw this problem. Got a 700R4 BUILT, and had the warrenty in writing. When the tranny brokehe took it back with the warrenty, and they made up a excuse to not honor it. Other people say the same. Persoanlly, I would only use a 4L80e

yeah, a 4L80E would be stellar, but the $$ they cost and the computer needed just turned me off the idea...for now...

...if I ever go with EFI then guess what trans I'll get...
