882s or tbi heads
i am going to building a mid 80s van for a friend of mine and it will be getting a new engine. i was wondering which head would be best out 882s or tbi heads. i already have a set of rebuilt tbi heads in my garage. it will need a special intake to work with a 4bbl. money aside and the fact that i already have the other heads.....which head is a better head?

Re: 882s or tbi heads
I tend to believe anything is better than a tbi head. I have known of four sets that have developed cracks around the exhaust valve.....so just from a longevity standpoint, I would look at something else...

Re: 882s or tbi heads
tbi heads work well, they have a swirl intake runner, make good torque, and will use the same intake as the 882 but you need to grind the center bolt holes on the intake, 882 is a good choice also. Use what you got in your case.

Re: 882s or tbi heads
Tit-for-tat. price what a new intake will be for the tbi, then price what it will cost to overhaul the 882, what ever is the lessor of evil go with...

Re: 882s or tbi heads
well i have found an intake made by edelbrock (#2104) specially made with the canted center bolts. it doesnt matter to me if i have the heads or dont because my friend that im building the van for will be paying me for my heads or for the 882s that i can get for 160$ a pair (with core). i just want to know which head is better than the other. he will be getting one of the two. and out of my own curiousity, i woulld like to know which head is better of the two.
