Crossmember question..
Can I leave my stock manual trans crossmember in, and put in a auto trans crossmember for the th400 to bolt to? Would that work, I wanted to put some kind of scatter shield support off of the manual xmember, but I dont have a trans to look at and measure. Does anyone know?

Re: Crossmember question..
is it a 3 spd on the tree or a 4 spd toploader style trans? the reason i ask is the 3 spd style trans has the crossmember closer to the front and to switch to an auto you'll have to grind torch or cut the rivets out of that x member to get it out of the way for the auto to fit

Ah, well that ditches my idea of doing that then. How hard is it to get the manual xmember out without air tools, or a torch?

Re: Crossmember question..
well a grinder would work just grind it down to where you can take a hammer and a punch and get them out, someone torched mine out but they were stupid and just took the torch and cut the member leaving the rest still riveted to the frame, so when i get around to it i'm gonna take a torch and blow the rivet heads off, either way a grinder and a punch should get the job done just watch your fingers!!!!!

Re: Crossmember question..
If you don't have a grinder, you can center punch the head, drill a 1/8" or slightly larger hole all the way through, then drill with a 3/8"-7/16": the head will come off and you can punch the rest out. Worked for me on mine.
