Freakin' Short

I think my dome light is the culprit. I have had the problem for over a month, but the other day the dome light stopped working. Question is this, how is the dome light wire likely routed to get back to the fuse box? I can see it at the light fixture, but don't know where it eventually comes out at so I can just change the wire out. Secondly, if that is my short, is changing the wire going to fix the problem? Thanks for the input.

Re: Freakin' Short

More than likely it snakes above the back window, down the driver's side in the back, runs up to the front along the floor where the inner and outer rockers meet. Then on to the fuse box, or the headlight switch.

If it plugs into the fuse box, you can unplug it there.

According to my 72 manual there are 2 wires, a green and a white.

Re: Freakin' Short

The wiring for the dome light is routed through the left upper rear cab corner down beside the gas tank and into a channel covered up by the step plate. From there it goes into the fuse panel. You will want to look for a bare wire in the wiring.

Re: Freakin' Short

Ok, so I figured out why the dome light was not working. It came unplugged from the fuse box. So obviously taht is not my short (even though I did find a couple bad spots in the wiring that will be replaced). Is there a likely culprit here? Should I just start replacing wires to the lighter, etc.?

I dont think my short is in the radio or dome light. Where else are the common shorts located? Thanks.

Re: Freakin' Short

check yout tail lights and turn signals and brakes. It's been a couple months, but if I remember right, the dome light is on the same circuit as the parking lights and brake lights. If I am right, then the very first place I would look, is under the rear bumper for hillbilly engeneered trailer lights.
