how do you.....

im taking the 67 apart right now and im stripping all the chrome off it, like trim, badges etc, it seems like you cant take the fender emblems off unless the fender is off? is this right, if so how the heck do you put them back on after the truck is painted, is there some weird angle or what? i looked all over and when the doors are off you can see the back of the badge when it comes through and is secured on,but there is no fukin way my hand can fit in there

I was in the same sit. and there is no way that I could get those emblems off without taking the fender off first.

easiest way is to drop the inner fenders....

If you are considering repainting the vehicle with fenders installed you might consider using "tube nuts" (sometimes referred to as "barrel nuts") that are available in different sizes to fit the fender holes left by emblem removal. Install the tube nuts on the studs of the emblem(s) and then insert them into the holes....tube nuts/barrel nuts are readily available from most Mustang vendors as this is how most of the early year Mustang emblems are secured to the body...unlike today's "sticky tape" method. Hope this helps and offers you an option to consider.

I agree with 7T1BURB, thjose "barrel buts" are what are used for some of the emblems on my Chevelle. Basically they sit inside the hole where the emblem goes into and when you push the emblem "rods" into the body panel, they get tight as they go into the "barrel nuts." I hope that made sense because it is a lot clearer in my head. Good luck

Don't they use those on a lot of motorcycles on the fuel tanks to hold the emblems?

Currently, most modern M/C tank emblems are secured on the tank with "sticky tape"....some years ago the emblems were secured to a plate affixed to the tank. The plate was welded to the tank during initial tank production and the plate was "stepped up" on the ends to allow for small welded nut(s) in order to screw the tank emblems to this plate.....tanks were even indented in this area so the emblem would fit "flush" to the tank when secured to this plate. There are manufacturer and production exceptions, but this is the general guideline on how nameplates are secured to M/C tanks....hope this helps.

Can anyone post a picture of one of these "barrel nuts"? I have a couple of emblems that I want to put on, but I also have not been able to figure out how to get them on. The two "nuts" that came with each emblem appear to be a friction fit and are meant to be forced on the end of the emblem post. Because of access problems, it appears to be very difficult to do.

I've done it with the fenders on. It was far from easy! A long wrench that fits the nut and reach way up in the fender. I put some tape on the wrench to hold the nut when I replaced them. A major pain in the ass. In retrospect I would unbolt the inner fender and do it that way but it can be done with everything in place. The last step was picking up the wrenches off of the lawn and driveway after I threw them!
