performance brake package
OK guys, first off, thanks for all the help and insight.. learning ALOT here...
Lil background - I have always wanted a 69-72, and teetered back and forth for YEARS.. I build custom motorcycles for a living, and business has kinda gotten in the way of play for the last ohhhhh 4 or 5 years earlier this year, I decided we needed a new shop truck, so I went looking, and found my 70, a project in the works, semi-rat-rodd'd but in need of some work... So one step at a time, and prolly about 2000 more stupid questions that may or may not have been answered previously.... So, back to the question at hand... Ive just finished my new 383 and get her slot in, and running today, and was thinking that with over 600hp on the bottle, its time to seriously consider some better binders on the front end... Previously the truck was converted to a 5 on 5 bolt patern and has the std looking calipers. So I need some input here... I would like to fit at least some 2 piston calipers on 12 inch rotors (running 16inch steel wheels for now) 4 piston even better... I looked online, but I am more looking for someone's direct experience with them, fit, finish, power, modulation, bang for the buck, etc... Thanks in advance guys!

I could not find any over size or ones like willwood unless I went with a chevelle spindle. I did find cross drilled and slotted rotors I have on. I also went with this high power electric master cylinder. I did not have enough vacuum to run the power booster. With this combination it stops my truck with 20's and over 700 horse with NO problem.

There is a nice 13" "Big Brake" set-up, but I don't know if there would be clearance issues with 16" wheels.

Baer's kit requires you to send them spindles (or I think you can buy spindles through them) that they modify and send back with the rotors/hats mounted on them. A member did have this done. Here's a post, follow the links inside for more info.

You have to run a 17 inch wheel with those brakes for proper clearence. Also check out the kit from SSBC

Classic Performance sells a front and rear kit that includes drop spindles and braided brake lines for $2300. It's pricey, but it's a complete kit, so it's not as bad as the sticker shock when you look at what all you get.
I plan to go Corvette C4 front and rear myself, but that is 75% performance, 25% pimp factor for me ![]() |
