Vortec heads

I have searched the archives here and some talk of 350 Vortecs (aluminum) for $ 525 a set but there are no links posted with them. The best I could come up with was Summit cast iron for $975 a set and up. Where is a good place to look?

Re: Vortec heads

I think the reason there was no link is that you are not likely to find a pair of aluminum vortecs for anywhere close to $525.

Re: Vortec heads

new cast iron vortecs are 5-600, the aluminums are 8-1200. good used vortecs can be found and rebuilt, for way under 500. unless you want piece of mind of new rebuild a set.

Re: Vortec heads

Cast Iron Vortecs, assembled:
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
http://www.sdpc2000.com/catalog/3129...-Assembled.htm

No aluminum Vortecs for that price as has been noted There are definitely upgraded Vortecs available from GMPP, Summit and others that allow higher lift (stock Vortecs are lift-limited to .475 lift) and have been ported or otherwise improved.

Got a link for these? I've seen some sets in the $400s, but that's not "way under" $500. Expect to pay ~$300 to overhaul a set of used Vortecs depending on condition.

Make sure you review the FAQs out there if you're going junking for heads.

Re: Vortec heads

ive heared that the cast iron versions are a bit better .
they developped the aloy ones in less time because they where needed on the newer vettes that would come out sooner than the trucks , i don't know if that is realy true or if they chainged it by now

I purchased a set of Vortecs, with the valves reworked and the springs upgraded for $500.00 from a machine shop.

A few years ago when I bought mine, new assembled factory Vortec heads were only $500 a pair. Those were the days.

Re: Vortec heads

Billa, if you watch ebay or better yet local swaps a set can be had for $200, and most of these used heads are OK out of the box (new engines, low miles, good used heads) and can be bolted on and run, so $200 is way below $500, no? I have a set of 062's on my 99 tahoe with over 100k and I'd bolt them onto any 350 and run em, they are like new, no smoke, blowby, dilluted oil, nothing!! New late model engines with fuel inj last way longer than our old 350's, look at carcraft's junkyard jewels articles, they buy late model efi engines and rering and pound the dog out of them. Find wrecked vortec trucks, cause you know they were running when wrecked and you'll get a good set of used heads that are ready to bolt on and use, and you're worried instruct your machine shop to disassemble and inspect to insure no problems!
