Anyone ever installed latermodel seats???

Well I'm just brainstorming again I guess, but I was looking thru some of my pictures when I saw this picture of this Blazer, and as much as I want to keep a bench seat, I just dont think they would be as comfortable as these buckets, plus there would be added storage space with the console. So what all would be involved in changing to these seats? I'm assuming I'd have to drill new holes in the cab to mount these? Does anyone know or think if the brackets themselves would have to be modded? Thanks folks

yes, their has been people who have done this, there screennames do not come to mind though, the 99+truck seats are bolted down at a different angle if i recall directly, and you will have to fabricate mounts, also there was something to do with safety, since the seatbelts are made into the seats, if i get time later i will look for the post

Those pics are of those seats in a Blazer. Note the floorpans are flat, instead of having the hump in them. If you were to use the factory brackets, the seats would sit way too high for a pickup, but would probably work fine in a Blazer.

Jonboy's nailed it right there. I've installed 2002 Silverado buckets in my 75 Blazer so I can vouch for the mounting of the Silverado seats. The stock bracketry is not removeable and because of this would have the seats sitting 5-6" higher than normal in a pickup due to the hump in the floor.

I suspect the reason for the complex brackets is because of the integral seat belts and needing to be able to take the force of impact in a crash. One might be able to get creative and cut the snot out of a set, but it might not be worth it. From what I've seen and read, buckets out of a 88-98 NBS truck fit easier (4wheel and off road mag had a write up on it a few years back).

I am working on putting seats out of a 98 Suburban in my 68 Chevy. I cut and fabriacted the brackets to fit my floor. ANYONE have an idea what that console in the picture came out of? That kind of fits my idea for my truck.

Re: Anyone ever installed latermodel seats???

the safety issue with seat belts built into the seat is that the floorboard needs to be reinforced if you are not using factory mounting points. That way if in a wreck the seat doesn't become an ejector seat with you seatbelted to it still.

Re: Anyone ever installed latermodel seats???

would placing a 1/4 inch steel plate on the outside of the floor work goos enough to keep the seat from braking loose in a wreak..

Re: Anyone ever installed latermodel seats???

Ding ding- NBS is new body style (88-98)....

Yes, the floor needs some beefing up to gain some strength. I used 1/4" steel as my brackets to bolt to the seats and then to the floor.

Re: Anyone ever installed latermodel seats???

I have the 99-Up Silverado seats sitting in my Blazer right now. The seat tracks lined up well with a few of the holes in my floorboard, but not through all of them. I had to drill some holes in my floorboard.

I also bought a 3rd row seat out of a 2000-Up Suburban to match the front seats and to fit between the rear fenderwells perfectly.

One thing though...I can't get my seatbelts to latch and adjust when I pull the seatbelts out when I am sitting in the seats. The don't latch and hold tight for some reason.
