I bought Rokcrlns plans for the tip and flip dolly. I am just about done building it. I was thinking. While the cab is on the dolly would it be bad to replace the rockers, maybe the floor, design and install a new dash? I am worried about things not alligning the same once they get reinstalled on my frame. I hope that makes sence. I just wanted to know how much i could safely do without things aligning different. Thanks alot!!

I would think it would be easier to do some sheet metal replacement off the frame. As long as you're not touching the mounts, you're fine.

If you do have to touch the mounts or anywhere that might affect it, measure before/during/after and you're good to go.

If you are gonna cut on it most anywhere, then it needs to be bolted back to the frame ... even then it's a good idea to weld temporary bracing in.

So even for just replacing the rockers i should bolt it back on the frame? I would agree for replacing the floor if i have to do that. What about removing the dash and building a new custom one. Do you think that will be okay? Thanks alot for the help.

Why dont you PM Rokcrln and ask him how he uses his. I have the plans somewhere...do you bolt it to the dolly using the body mount holes? If so I would think that would be close to the same as having it bolted to the frame. Bracing the door opening does sound like a good idea though.

*Yes that is a great idea! Here is what I answered then I saw this thread so I thought I would let eveyone know what I sent.*

This is just what it is made for. As long as you take your time and follow the steps you will end up with a perfect platform for this kind of work. I designed the dolly to be set at the factory heights for body mounts (w/o bushings) and flat so it will keep it all lined up right.

From what I have seen of your work this should not be a problem for you at all.
