Re: CST/10 info

that's right. only the SPID, or build sheet... but if they are both missing, you may find some chalk markings on the firewall, or on the front side of the front wall on the bed, that say Z84. I've seen these chalk markings on a few trucks.

Re: CST/10 info

i need some i d help on my truck, the badges on the glovebox and front fenders say its a cst/10 the truck is a 1969 but it has 8 bolt lugs and a 3/4 chassis, engine is a 350 4 barrel that i had rebuilt about 2 years ago.not sure if the badges are just wrong or if some mods have taken place, wouldn't it be more likely that is was a cst/20 or cst/30? it has the factory guage package tach, oil, speedo pressure, ammeter,it also has saddle tanks in addition to the one behind the tank.oringinally it had a 4.11 rearend which i changed to 3.50 gearing so i could go 65 with out redlining, lol, its a good reliable truck and its a daily driver so when i do work on it i have to make sure i got everything i need before i start.there isn't an id plate in the glovebox but there is one on the door.how can i find out what i have?btw its a long bed.

Re: CST/10 info

CST's aren't very rare unfortunately. I've seen a ton of them here ion the DFW area. I have a '70 myself.

About the tranny, forget the 2004r it won't last long behind any amount of HP over stock. The 700's are better, but not by too much. Rebuilds on those trannies are over $1200 normally.

I'd go with a 4L80E if it was me...much better built and will last much longer.

What works good with the EFI small block V8 from the 96? Tahoe. As far as transmission rebuilds, my dad has a friend that can do it and will only cost parts. Which is a pretty good deal.

I havent payed enough attention to the badging on these trucks ever to see if they were the regular C10, or CST/10, Longhorn, etc. I was planning to do-up a 98 Jimmy. Funny how easily one sways for a classic chevy.

Re: CST/10 info

Post the first 1/2 of your VIN... we'll tell you what it translates to... Does it have a headliner with trim around it? lower belt with woodgrain, tail gate woodgrain panel, window stainless trim, chrome wingvents, bright trim on the pedals...?

Re: CST/10 info

ce149z8 i looked at your vin info longhorn but still not sure why the vin says 1/2 ton when its on a 3/4 ton.....coils and 8 lug wheels????
thanks for the info tho,no headliner, woodgrain trim on the lower sides, the tailgate has black trim where it says chevy,it does have stainless trim on the windows and chrome wingvents, bright trim on the pedals, has a 350 transmission,i don't know if cruise control was an option then but it has that and it looks old enough to be original, lol and it still works

I think those came with 4L80E's but I can't swear to it.

Re: CST/10 info

Using the Red Book for chevy trucks,it states only 29,942 were equipped as CST.

Re: CST/10 info

i have found the red book to be so inacurate, i sold my red book.
Maybe 29,xxx CST/10 trucks.... but then that wouls be a guess anyways.
A 96 Taho would have the 4L60E.
craftsworker, you have a 69 1/2 ton... I think the badges are added, as is the 3/4 on suspention.
Now, did you say the lower trim was there, but not wood grain? The way you worded it left me a littlc unsure.

Re: CST/10 info

The 4L60E's aren't bad trannies [they came from the 700 lineage]....the 80's are much better, though.

First welcome to the site. You need to start your own thread to get answers to your questions. With it buried here in this one two pages deep it won't get the looks that it would on it's own. Besides that some of the guys fuss when you thread jack. Maybe one of the mods will see this and move it to the right spot. Again welcome and you will get your questions answered I'm sure.
