reverse burnouts?

how bad are these to do? i kinda did one today on accident. i was going down the street at lunch and passed by my friends house and didnt see him there till i had already passed it. so i stoped, put it in reverse and backed up, a little TO quickly, and my tires spun and i got a little smoke, not much, but i just dont wanna damage anything.


i got a 10 bolt open diff. w/2.73 gears

One tmie i had a fight with my now x-wife and i was PI$$ED as i was leaving my drive way in reverse i hammered it and i had alot of smoke and it has never hurt a thing that was about 3years ago but i wouldn't reccomend doing it to often.

I've done only 2 that I can remember in my truck.

One on accident. Then I did another because I got posi on the one I did on accident and wanted to try it again!

I dont' know the damages, but I wouldn't do it on a regular basis.

My guess is that it's just as hard on the parts as a normal burnout would be.

Doing a burnout in reverse is much harder on your ring and pinion than doing it going forward.
The way gearsets are cut, they are much stronger in standard rotation (going forward) than reverse rotation (going backwards.)

Also, I don't know what tranny you have, but I have been told that both autos and manuals are the same way, much stronger in drive than reverse.


I really doubt you've done any damage. Although weaker in reverse, they are by no means fragile.
