Anyone ever tried applying fabric/carpet to a top?

Again, while at a camper topper store, i noticed that the upgraded camper shells had press-molded or formed automotive carpet on the inside of the shell. it made a HUGE difference in sound and solid feel. it was very contoured with ribs and such on the inside. just wondering if it's been tried, or if you think it's possible. I'd bet it would make a HUGE difference in ride inside the truck...

I would think it would be hard to keep it adhered. When it is cold outside, I get condensation on the roof of the truck - to the point that sometimes it drips.

Re: Anyone ever tried applying fabric/carpet to a top?

yeah, i noticed that this weekend with all the rain. prolly not the best idea...

but how about upholstered panels sized to fit in the "recess" areas between the ribs. sort of like a truck headliner, but inserted only between the "ribs." I guess it'd bee even harder to find an adhesive that kept it in place, but could be removed without damaging the fiberglass...

hmm, maybe i should just turn my brain off (or on, as ithe case may be...)

Actually I was thinking of doing the same thing. using a masonite backing dampen it to get it to mold into place let is dry that way. Then use healiner glue and add the 1/4 in foam padding then then colored vinal. You can recess or raise logos or desing in the foam to get creative. Then if needed add some 1x1 or 2x2 for some strength and then either fiberglass or bondo the masonite to the top and use velcro tape on the back to assist. I used to do this to hot rods in the trucks of 32 roadsters.

I bet that mod would eliminate the condensation problem. Might be a good mod for winter driving too. Single wall fiberglass doesn't insulate very well.
