VIN stamp location on 74 350 engine

Hey all, I'm looking at a 74 c10 that the owner claims still retains the original engine. There is no VIN stamp on the front pad. Is there one somewhere else on the block ??
Thanks

The whole VIN won't be there, just the sequence number (last digits of the VIN), see below. Is there nothing on that pad?
Other places to look are above the oil filter, or somewhere on the transmission flange.

If it is correct it should have 13YXXXXXXX where Y is the last letter before the sequence number and XXXXX is the sequence number.

Back of the block, look downward between the left head and transmission. You pretty much need to plant your forehead against the firewall to see it, but it'll be there. Probably gonna have to wipe away some grime, but the numbers are large enough so you'll feel them there with your fingers.

Blackstone, if you are talking about the casting number it won't have the build sequence number in it.

This is what's stamped on the pad: V1130TMM, no VIN sequence that I see. The MM is actually very close to the edge of the pad...there isn't room for anything after it. I guess I need to crawl under it to look at the oil filter area.
Where on the transmission flange would it be ??

You're right, I was thinking casting number. I suppose he may at least get a build date there. I looked mine up but it was vague on the date code, one series of numbers covered 4-5 years of production. At some point I'm going to have to hunt down more numbers from other areas of the block. I know they're there somewhere.

It would be UNDER that stamping.
It could be anywhere on the machined portion of the trans pad... mostly hidden unless you pull the trans....

Re: VIN stamp location on 74 350 engine

Well, I found it..it's rather faint, but I believe it starts with C4SXXXXXX. Does that look right ?? What does the C4S stand for ?? C=2wd...4=1974..S= ? maybe ?? Anyway, the last 4 don't seem to match the VIN, so he is bummed out. He's had it for 10 years thinking it had the original motor.

I thought all of those numbers were on the deck infront of #2 cylinder. If the block has been decked then they will be lost.

Re: VIN stamp location on 74 350 engine

C- Chevrolet
4 - 1974
S - St. Louis assmebly plant
XXXXXX - build sequence number. THIS MUST match the last number of the VIN to be original.

Example: say your VIN is CCY244S100500 the above number would be C4S100500.

As hiway said, if the number is missing from the front of the block, it has been machined off....

Re: VIN stamp location on 74 350 engine

OK...the S = St. Louis must be the final assembly plant for the truck ??
I thought the V in V1130TMM indicated the Flint plant...engine only ?
What does the rest of the V1130TMM stand for?

Now he's curious to know if there is a way to piece together the whole original VIN of the truck this engine came out of. He still knows the PO and thinks he may have mixed up the engines with another truck he had when he overhauled it.....
