WTB '68 Stock 327 4-barrel Air Cleaner

Yep...got the wrong one at the swap meet and I would like to have a stock original. Bad paint is fine since I will be repainting it anyway.

Re: WTB '68 Stock 327 4-barrel Air Cleaner

I have a very early one just down the road here in T-Town. Do you know what they look like/what they don't look like? Let me know the details here or by PM.

Bob

Re: WTB '68 Stock 327 4-barrel Air Cleaner

Bob, Here is a picture of the engine with it mounted. The snout is very skinny. There is an original 327 posted in the truck forum with some shots of the engine from a different angle and it appeared to have the same air cleaner.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=224159 This '68 does not appear to have the correct aircleaner...it has the heat vent mechanism on top.

BTW...you still have my fiber optic units for the shift indicator? It's only been a year...LOL!!!!!!

Re: WTB '68 Stock 327 4-barrel Air Cleaner

Mine has a VERY skinny snout - long and skinny. No heat stove provisions anywhere and NO emission devices or holes. I got this from a 68 BB GMC C20 or 30. Don't know if it original or not.

Yes - I still have 3 fiber optics with your name on them.

Re: WTB '68 Stock 327 4-barrel Air Cleaner

Bob, I just finished looking in the '68 factory manual and it says that the '68 had three different types of air cleaners, paper/oil, paper/oil/foam and oil bath. The shop manual shows nearly 15 different configurations on V-8's and I-6's. Most of the ones that are close show a heat stove arrangement with vacuum actuator on top to ensure 80 - 100 degree air entering the engine. In retrospect I see why I picked the unit I did. It looks pretty close but it still rattles and pisses me off...LOL!

OK...I just noticed that the picture above, from the truck brochure, shows air injection that was not on my 3/4 ton. It might have been on the 1/2 tons but not the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. I recall my C30 (now oldiron's...boo hoo) did not have injection.

Re: WTB '68 Stock 327 4-barrel Air Cleaner

Yes - as I compared mine to the pictures you posted, I came to the conclusion that mine is a little earlier. The snout is almost 90 degree to the side. It has a partial AC foil sticker stating "A392C" filter. Sorry.

Would like to figure it out (application wise). Any hints, anybody?

TIA - Bob
