radiator hose location
i've got a 70 gmc 1500 2wd pickup. my lower radiator hose sits on the frame. enough to be wearing into it. i got a new hose today and lt looks like the radiator i've got in there might be incorrect. the diameter of the hose is much larger than the diameter of the inlet of the radiator. also it looks like the inlet should be up about 6 or 7 inches from the base of the radiator. mines right at the bottom.
anyone have any pics of their radiator ?? or can someone tell me if their inlet is higher up than right at the bottom ?? mines a manual trans no ac but i dont think that really makes a difference where the hoses are located. any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: radiator hose location
Does your lower neck go straight out, or does it angle up.
The latter is correct. |

Re: radiator hose location
yep, you have the wrong rad.
I have installed the rad from a later 73-87 truck, and it sounds like yours has been too, but what I did was cut the lower neck off the old rad, and had the rad shop braze that on replaceing the straight verson. |

Re: radiator hose location
i have had that problem on my 77 as well, i take the old hose and cut out the offending section, cut that like a hot dog bun and wrap it around the new hose at the rub point.

Re: radiator hose location
THATS WHAT I DO. ZIP-TIE A 6 OR 8" SECTION OF OLD HOSE OVER THE SPOT THAT RUBS ON THE FRAME. JOHN

Re: radiator hose location
Thank for the idea of the old hose. Just put a new one on this afternoon and wondering about what to do where it hits the frame. Great idea with the old hose. Thanks again!!

Re: radiator hose location
Well , you guys know everything! I was trying to buy a bottom radiator hose yesterday and both places I went had a different hose than I needed. I must also have a newer radiator in mine. The guy I bought mine from had several zip ties wrapped around the hose where it rubs the frame. So I guess I need a hose from a 73-77 truck? I will check today and also buy a larger piece to put on the outside. Thanks

Re: radiator hose location
hose from 73 - 87 truck won't help, the frame is still in the way if your lower neck goes straight out.

Re: radiator hose location
If you have a 73 up waterpump, that lower hose will fit the old truck /with the late (straightneck radiator). mine is setup that way..... However, if you try to stuff that late lower hose on the early waterpump, it will make you crazy (been there , tryed that) L
