NP205 rear output section swap out

My 80 GMC with a np205 has a slip style rear output section it. How hard is it and what is needed to change it out to except a yoke and u-joint?
I all ready have to do rear driveshaft work and u-joint work. Do I have to change the output shaft itself?

thanks in advance

Re: NP205 rear output section swap out

I'm going to be doing this same change to one of my NP205's soon. I have a donner 205 that was from a standard truck, and I'm planning on swapping the rear output shaft and the bearing & seal housing as an assembly. I believe the slip shaft type housing is totally different.

Re: NP205 rear output section swap out

I did this awhile back.
You'll have to swap the output shaft and the output housing.

Here's my thread with a bunch of pics when I rebuilt my 205;

Re: NP205 rear output section swap out

I knew I'd have to change the output housing, wasn't sure (in denial) about changing the output shaft. Will my gears and bearing fit the different shaft?
