Re: Octane Boosters?

i am a huge believer in Lucas products. If you can find FORMULA 112 however i use it instead. I have tested it on the track and it does work. To much octane and you make LESS horsepower not more.

Just a word to the wise 10 points really means 0.1 (thats 1/10th) octane boost.

'Nother word to the wise: If you don't have enough compression ratio then you are wasting your time and money.

If your engine is bone stock then leave the octane boosters on the shelf. You'll only be wasting money by using them.

Re: Octane Boosters?

If you have a 350 or other 9.0-1 CR engine from the 60s and 1970 you will get knock with 87 octane gas.You can retard the timing a bit and get even crappier mileage and performance,or you can use 89 octane which is what I did before the rebuild (which resulted in much lower compression apparently),or you can use octane boost, which is not cost effective.
>>The guys who need this stuff are the ones with 10-1 plus and premium gas is not high enough octane.
>>I read a story in Hot Rod once that did a comparison of these products and I THINK the "104" one came out on top,but you can never be sure with these mags-who there advertisers are etc.
>>I remember them saying that the formula containing manganese in place of lead had the best results.

Re: Octane Boosters?

no need to up your octain unless you are detonating or getting a ping as they say, new car craft for this month has a big write up on it from rocket race fules that will enlighten you. octain will only make more power if your motor is radical enough to need it. it won't do squat for a moter that has no ping.... the ping means the motor is being held back from its potental. on the other hand if you take a regular motor and put some hi octain fule in it you may be able to bump up the timing and get a little more out of it, but it is the timeing that made the power the fule just made it safe to throw some timeing in,,, comprenday.....

Re: Octane Boosters?

the octane boosters like said above will only increase the 1/10 of what the bottle claims. also most of them are toluene or xylene which both can be found at home depot by the paint thinner. also as stated above there's no reson to increase the octane unless you're getting detonation.

to sum it up they are junk.

I was going to say the same thing when I saw the thread title. I was pissed when I read about that a long time ago. I wasted alot of money on that stuff.

Re: Octane Boosters?

my car states to run on 91 Octane or more. Here in Oregon we get 87/89/92 octanes. 92 is currently in my area 2.79 a gallon and the 87 is 2.45. I can get octane boost (now who really knows if this is working) for 2.00, which I am saving a 1.50 at fill up time. I am not seeing any drop in MPG and the car is performing like it always has. I just thought anyway to save a buck I am going to do. Sounds like the 108 Octane boost I am buying may/may not be working, and that the 91 perferred octane for my car could be a false statement from the manufacturer. Or I guess I could be shortening the life on my car engine.
