Found a new hatch

I've been regularly searching the board, ebay, and craigslist for a new (better) rear hatch for my hardtop. I found one on the craigslist and it was right here in my hometown. It seems to be in really good shape. Now I can work on getting this thing back together.

Re: Found a new hatch

If you don't mind me asking.. What ballpark price are those going for?

Did you buy just the hatch? or did you get the locking rails and rods for the handle too.? and hinges?

Re: Found a new hatch

Looks like a pretty good find. Are you going to have to make ANY repairs to it? I have a feeling I am going to have to take a crash course in Fiberglass 101. Doesn’t sound too hard, but still, I’m not looking forward to it.

that was a good read, but i have a question: how do you repair those stress cracks, like the ones that develop at the hinges. i mean, will this same repair technique hold up to the stress there?

Re: Found a new hatch

There was a repop company making these things for like $300. Let's face it, these are old fiberglass parts, cracks are part of the game. If you grind/sand down the area with 40 grip to rough it up and use the sheets of fiberglass mat, the top will be fixed. It is real easy, heck you can even buy carbon fiber in big sheets, that'd look sweet if you left the fiber look or it can be painted over.

Re: Found a new hatch

Cstanley - I PM'd you with a contact.

Tonka - It was $300. No hinges or arms, but I already had those with my old one. I was comfortable with $300 since it is in such good shape.

Critter - very little. It is in great shape.

Re: Found a new hatch

You had good luck there, NuBomb, scoring a nice hatch right there locally!
Be really cool if more people knew about craigslist here, but seems to be used very little yet.

Re: Found a new hatch

I didn't even know about craigslist until it was talked about here on the board. It was one of those "67-72 chevy truck parts call for info" ads. I was surprised he had one. I guess they are out there, you just gotta be persistant in looking.

Re: Found a new hatch

Ya. He said he knew you when I mentioned the board. He was a great guy to deal with. I'm hoping to get out to his place and look at few parts in the future.
