Difference in manifolds.....??????

Well after all the great advice on getting the headers installed I have decided to pull them off and go back with the manifolds for now. My budget right now cant handle the expense of getting the exhaust reworked to be able to hook up the headers. After this brainstorm I have noticed one potential problem. It may be normal but it confuses the heck out of me. On the right side exhaust manifold the spacing for the bolts at the rear port are wider than the others. It will not bolt up to my head. What is the deal with this? I know I will definitely need another manifold but what should I be looking for? The left side bolts up fine and it seems to be that this could be normal since the exhaust gaskets come with that hole made in them.......What should I do??????

Thanks
Jeremy

Re: Difference in manifolds.....??????

Some 305s and 350s had different spacing on the manifolds/heads at one end of the head. I have no idea why. Maybe you have a mismatched combination of heads and/or manifolds?

The replacement crate engines like I bought are drilled for both types of manifolds. Take a look at the pic below. You can see how it is drilled for both types of manifolds.

Is this the part where you are having problems? If so, that is probably the problem. You probably have a 350/283/307/whatever with 305 manifolds.
