radiator & heater hose question
I have been looking at new replacement radiators lately. It doesn't seem that any of them have the heater hose connection like most of these trucks came with.
If using one of these new radiators should the heater hose then be connected to the water pump? Just trying to figure out what everyone is doing. |

Re: radiator & heater hose question
Yes, many were that way originally. I think I saw the correct fitting for the water pump nipple in the HELP section at Oriely auto last week if you need one. Water exits the intake fitting through a 5/8 hose and goes into the lower fitting on the heater core and returns from the top fitting through a 3/4 hose into the water pump.

Re: radiator & heater hose question
What is the deal with the radiator having the return on the radiator instead of the water pump? Does it matter where you plumb the intake?
Mark, is that powder coat on the water pump & intake? That is really looking good. s/t

Re: radiator & heater hose question
All of that paint is rattle-canned?? What brand of paint is it. I think I will do my block too. Also where can I get some valve covers like you have (GMC of course)?

Re: radiator & heater hose question
if you clean the engine properly, you can get awsome rattle can results. I don't have pics on this computer, but the 350 that was in my first longhorn looked that good, and it was done with rattle.

Re: radiator & heater hose question
Thanks Mark. Are your pulleys sprayed with that cast color or just a silver?
Cleaned with starting fluid? (just don’t do it in the garage with the doors shut! Do all starting fluids clean the same? Good tip. Thanks. s/t

Re: radiator & heater hose question
Mine has a hose form the intake (supply to the heater core) and leaves the heater core to the radiator inlet on the rear passenger side of the radiator.

Re: radiator & heater hose question
My 78 and 72 truck are the same way Tim. The cheap four cores online don't seem to come that way though.

Re: radiator & heater hose question
I guess when I get my replacement radiator...I will connect the hose that is supposed to go to the radiator...to the water pump...right?
