Rear as tank conversion...OK for lowered truck?
I recently went to the Turlock Swap Meet to buy a new rear gas tank conversion kit (72 blazer tank) for my 72 c10. Between the time the guy went to get the tank from the trailer and got back, some other guy convinced me those tanks hang too low for lowered trucks..and it would scrape. I did not buy it. So I ask the experts here today: Will the 72 blazer tank scrape if the truck is lowered 6" and riding on 20's with about 3" sidewall tires. I appreciate any feedback.

Re: Rear as tank conversion...OK for lowered truck?
how low is your truck and what type of drop?
Blazer tanks hang low enough that you can see it when looking at the back of the truck, but if you are using a static drop i don't think you can go low enough to cause any harm. I would assume you would run into problems running airbags, definatley if you are trying to lay frame. There are more than a few people with blazer tanks here, and i'm sure they will chime in soon

I had a blazer tank under the bed of my 72 long bed. It was lowered 7" in the back with no problems at all. Drove the truck everyday for 3 years.

You could have a problem if you use bags and a C notch, otherwise drip springs will not cause it to bottom.

What size is the tank? I've got bags, 2 inch lowering blocks and a c-notch in the back of my 69 Burb and my tank doesn't drag.

Re: Rear as tank conversion...OK for lowered truck?
I have never heard anyone say a rear tank would rub. If it was a 25 or so gallon tank, it should be fine.
My air tank hangs down about 5" below the frame: I have about 8" before my drain hits. Last edited by jimmydean; 01-31-2007 at 02:44 PM. |

Re: Rear as tank conversion...OK for lowered truck?
Thanks for the feedback. My truck will only have a 6"drop (5 "coil/1"block) and a c-notch. From the looks of some of the pics you folks sent, it should not hit. Thanks again. MisterE
