i am 15 and in the process of restoring a single owner 1971 chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 all bodywork has been done and just painted original blue w/ white top i have ordered wide lower molding kit and have had heard it is very difficult to install is there any advise out there of a process to putting it on without damaging the new paint job

That is a good question about the trim. I had to snap a lower piece of molding on my 72 C20 beater the other day when it got sheered off as I rolled a welder past it but it doesn’t have fresh paint so there was no worry about chipping the paint around the trim mounting hole when I snapped the clip back in.

I have seen people grease the hole then squeeze the molding clip with a pair of needle nose pliers from the back side as you push the trim onto the body before. The bad thing is you cannot reach the backside of every hole with a needle nose pliers. I am sure other people on this forum have better methods.

Changing the lower moldings isn't that bad except for the nut at the front of the door. It seems like we put the clips in the trim and simply held it up to the truck and tightened up the nut from the back side. If your front bumper is on you probably will have to remove it to install the parts that go in front of the wheel. The door also has adhesive clips, stick em on the trim and peel the backing off.
