Frame VIN number location??

I found the VIN on the frame of my 67 4WD Chevy, but can't locate it on my 70 GMC 2WD. I recently sandblasted and put POR15 on the entire frame, but haven't seen anything but what looks like part numbers on the side of the frame under the doors. I looked all around the steering box area toward the firewall....all body parts, engine, etc are removed. Any ideas?? Thanks, Greg

Re: Frame VIN number location??

There are two places you can find a partial VIN on the frame - one is near the PS pump, and another is under the cab on top of the framreail. I think both are partials. This thread has a pic of where the front one is:

Hope this helps.

Re: Frame VIN number location??

mine has a partial on the pass side frame rail under the door on the side of the frame....oh and it is upside down. I just found it last night when I was grinding off some welds from the rock sliders I removed.

Re: Frame VIN number location??

I'll have to look closer & maybe remove some of the new paint. I must have missed it somehow. Thanks for the help!! I'll check it tonight after work. Greg

Re: Frame VIN number location??

I checked mine last night after finding this thread. I never knew it was there. The jimmy matches the vin after checking last night. I will have to check the truck when I get a chance.

Re: Frame VIN number location??

It seems like some of the GMC's don't have a partial vin there, I know my 67 GMC does not have one.

Re: Frame VIN number location??

Well I can't bring myself to remove the new POR15 to look closely.....but I can't see anything around the power steering that remotely looks like a number. Greg
