1962 1/2 ton rear end
Can anyone tell me if a rearend out of a 64-66 1/2 ton if it is a direct swap for a 62? or does any one know if i can just swap out the automatic brake adjuster from one of the newer rearend's into my 62? I'm having problems getting the back brakes to hold back all that Raw Chevy Power. Dont really have the money to do any kind or conversions to disk as of yet. Just hoping for a cheap fix for now. Thanks Guy's

Re: 1962 1/2 ton rear end
I don't know the specifics, but you can figure this one out yourself:
Are the drums the same diameter? Are they the same width? (shoes the same measurement from back to front, across the brake lining) Does the axle flange stick out away from the tube of the rear end housing the same distance? If they all match, then you should be able to swap them. You can also swap just the self-adjust hardware (including the star wheel) over if the drums are the same diameter. You'll just have to drill the appropriate holes in the old non-adjust shoes. Shafer's Classic Reproductions offers self-adjust conversion kits, including for Chevy 11-inch drums. I put one on my '57 Chevy, and it was pretty easy. Brad |
