How do I add a Tach??

I want to add a tach to the place where a tach is supposed to go. I removed the cluster and noticed I would have cut the plastic, and the tin. What do I do about the circuit board running across the back? I will be using an aftermarket tach so it may stick out the back I guess.

Help,

Thanks,

Chad

Re: How do I add a Tach??

You could always buy a fact tach printed circuit and it will have the room to install the tach, you can pick them up for about $45-50 buck repop all day long.

Re: How do I add a Tach??

Do you know who has one with maybe a pic of it? I guess I have to cut the plastic and the tin? Or do they make a tin already cut out?

Thanks,

Chad

Re: How do I add a Tach??

There are plenty of places to find an OEM tach. Why not try buying one of these. They also sell circuit board. Just my $0.02

http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cb/0051.asp $75.00

Re: How do I add a Tach??

The factory tach tins are already cut for the tach, but probably won't work out for you, plus they are costly like about $40-50 for the inner and outer and you will most likely still have to modify them, so why bother?

Check out this link and the last pic bottom right shows what a tach printed circuit looks like, nice and clean, not all chopped up like you would have to do to a non tach printed circuit to fit in a tach, unless you do a camaro tach they do not have a need to cut the outer tin just the inner, and you have to mod the outer a little to make it work. in most cases it would be easiest to just install a factory tach, unless you are looking to go higher than 5K rpm's. There is other tachs out there you can install without moding the PCB, one being a Sunpro 10k with a shift lite, member 70c10 has done iths several times and it lloks nice, but only with white faces as the Sunpro tach is white faced. PM 70c10 if you want further info on the tach install, I have only seen it not done it.

DO NOT BUY FROM LMC, they charge $75(inflated) for the tach PCB and then will want AT LEAST $15 shipping and handling to get it to you. I suggest you buy from one of the board vendors before EVER buying from LMC.

Chadvicki- I have some new tach PCB's if you want one $50 shipped to your door,Made in USA. I mess with the dashes quite a bit and that is mine in the link

Re: How do I add a Tach??

70c10 is the one that motivated me to do the white gauge change. It came out great and now I want to change my tach that is black to white. I bought a 8k sunpro II. I wonder if this is able to fit? I cant get the chrome bezel off so I think that it's not the right one. I wonder how the 10k is different?

Re: How do I add a Tach??

You'll have to ask Jim I don't know the specifics on the tachs themselves

Re: How do I add a Tach??

Blazerman has a tach cluster for sale in the classifieds & it shows the backside. It should help give you an idea what it looks like. Better yet, just buy his & you will be set...
