I need a new "thingy"
I'm not sure what to call this piece, so here we go ...
So we have the new frame and its been bead-blasted. While it looks very clean I have two small cracks that I need fixed. One is on the botton curve of the front right fender horn and the other is on one of the ears that are at the front outside of the frame. It looks as though the front radiator support attaches to the top of it. I think the spring mounts are supposed to be riveted to the bottom of it. While I don't have the spring mounts on this new frame, the holes on one side appear to have stress fractures. I want new ones ... The frame came with those cool rear shackles from OffRoad Designs (http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog/shacklekit.htm) and I'd like something similar for the front piece. Does anyone know what to call this piece or where to get a stronger bracket? I can always take the one off the "old" frame but ... Any ideas? --Jonathan |

Re: I need a new "thingy"
Let me see if I can help!
The front of the front spring is connected to the "front spring hanger". The rear of the front spring is connected to the "front spring shackle". The ORD shackle flip is only available for the rear! The shackle flip will give you about a 4" lift, on the rear. If your trying to lift the front the only way I know of doing what your suggesting is to buy longer "front spring shackles" or lift springs. Not sure if longer "front spring shackles" would be safe for a 4 inch lift. My .02.

Re: I need a new "thingy"
Front spring hanger ... Thanks 71Jimmy!
We are looking into buying a 4" lift kit from SkyJacker, so the front springs are definately getting replaced, but the problem is the front spring hanger. It seems to be two pieces joined by rivits: The botton piece which I take to be the actual spring hanger is missing and the two small holes at the botton of the top half have stress fractures. Should I try to repair the stress fractures, steal the whole piece from my good frame, or is there an aftermarket solution like the rear shackle (beefier)? (I hope that makes sense) --Jonathan |

Re: I need a new "thingy"
As far as I know, you cant get new front spring perches. You would have to get a set from a donor truck or beef up what you've got, as I did. Check out the thread: "Project 71 Build Thread" by "Mnorby" (in this section). He and I built our own perches with a new cross member...his are MUCH better engineered.
