Hydraulic Clutch Question
I am getting closer to assembling my collection of parts to convert my 86 GMC from auto to manual trans. My collection includes the master & slave cylinders, pedals, and bell housing from a mid 80s Chevy. A 84-87 four speed tilt column, a late 70s Saginaw four speed, an early 80s New Process 4 speed overdrive, and a couple late 70s flywheels. The truck currently has a 73 vintage 350 and TH400 trans.
My questions. 1. What clutch set do I need? Most listings show a different clutch for pre and post 84. 2. Is there anything that would prevent the 70s flywheel working with the hydraulic clutch linkage? 3. Do I need a high hump trans tunnel to clear either of the four speeds. |

Re: Hydraulic Clutch Question
1 the clutch kits are listed differentlu because the trhowout bearing is different, the disk and plate are the same. You should get the clutch kit for 85up and largest dia. you can.
2 As long as the flywheel is the correct size/tooth count a nd bolt pattern, it will work 3 I am not sure on this, I am assuming your truck is 2wd? I put a sm465 in my 87 k5 that originally had a 700r4, with original hump, if that helps any

Re: Hydraulic Clutch Question
Thanks. Does your K5 have the large hump?

Re: Hydraulic Clutch Question
It has a 4wd hump. The sm465 takes up the whole area, so a small hump might not work. BTW, mine is all factory adapters and such, so it is the way it would have came from the factory in 87 if it was a stick. The only thing in that area that is not typical is the bell, I am using a later model, pass side slave setup.
